Esther’s Days of Purification Intro Part I

Dear Friend,
It’s been quite the journey that I have been on since I established Precious Oils on May 1, 1991. When I first published the little purple covered booklet of Esther’s Days of Purification, in 2002, little did I realize what I would encounter? What I found was I wasn’t alone; many were searching for the answer to her purification process. In 2008, a Pastor in Florida, who had read my little purple book, encouraged me to write something for her upcoming Esther’s Party.  She was hosting it at her church for girls 9 to 13. It was because of her request that The Young Handmaiden’s Edition came forth. Since that time, everywhere I’ve traveled and offered these teachings has brought many more questions. Honestly, at one point to have so many share their desire to have a deeper study of Esther’s purification was a bit overwhelming. I understood their wishes; I shared the same. I wanted something in print that I could relate to so I could administer my own twelve month purification process.
I knew I had only a partial understanding of why oil of myrrh was used for six months of Esther’s regimen when I wrote those two little booklets. Since then, as I’ve re-read the Biblical account of Esther’s story, I’ve sensed that there is more to the mystery of her purification process. I knew the key to her greatness was in the myrrh and began to look deeper for the answer to the mystery.

Then I read a comment from Adam Clarke’s Commentary on Esther 2:12, and was somewhat “staggered”. Though this was written about 200 years ago, Mr. Clarke expressed the following:

“The reason of this purification seems not to be apprehended by any writer I have seen. The most beautiful of all the young virgins of all the provinces of Babylon were to be selected; and these were taken out of all classes of the people, indiscriminately; consequently there must have been many who were brought up in low life. Now we know that those who feed on coarse strong food, which is not easily digested, have generally a copious perspiration, which is strongly odorous; and in many, though in every respect amiable, and even beautiful, this odor is far from being pleasant. Pure, wholesome, easily digested, and nourishing aliment, with the frequent use of the hot bath, continued for twelve months, the body frequently rubbed with olive oil, will in almost every case remove all that is disagreeable of this kind. This treatment will give a healthy action to all the subcutaneous vessels, and in every respect promote health and comfort.”

After reading Clarke’s notes, I became a little overwhelmed realizing that I wasn’t alone, nor were those whom I have encountered at conferences throughout the years. We all seem to be looking for the details of the twelve months of Esther’s purification. Since finding Clarke’s words, I’ve continued to search for someone who knows the ancient secrets of why six months of myrrh and six months of sweet spices. I didn’t found anything; so I began to inquire of the Lord. There were days I would anoint myself with myrrh and pray and take notes, then research and take more notes. After much of that kind of prayer and deliberation, I’ve decided that this is the season to compile my notes and publish something that individuals, families and teachers can use to learn more about Esther. I hope that women’s groups and other speakers can incorporate it into their teachings about this unusual Queen. I also hope that you will use this as a “spring board” for your own study of Biblical fragrances.

My Precious Oils ministry is based on bringing the Word of God to life through the fragrances of the Bible. I believe that there is a deeper relationship with the Creator of the Universe through His Word as we embrace Biblical plants and fragrances. Today we can use these plants in teas, herbal remedies and tinctures and my favorite, therapeutic grade essential oils.

Most of us live in a nature deficit world and have lost touch with digging in the soil or taking a walk in the garden. When we get a surprise bouquet of flowers we automatically put our nose to them only to find out that science has made them beautiful in color and size, but has taken out the fragrances, especially of the roses. This lack of nature in our lives continues to add to our sensory deficit. We are relying on synthetic fragrances in our daily lives. This has our bodies thinking we have smelled the real thing. Synthetics aren’t the topic of this writing, but I would like to address this issue, briefly, although I could write so much more on it.

We live in an over-scented environment. The term “aromatherapy” once was valued as pure, plant products known as essential oils and their use in massage and inhalations.  In my book The Precious Oils of the Bible: Ancient Secrets ~ Modern Uses, I share how the term came into being. Today the term “aromatherapy” has been adulterated by companies deceiving the general population. I know that sounds harsh, but why is it that they can use synthetic chemicals and use not only the term “aromatherapy”, but “pure and natural”? This baffles me, and my Friend, in part, it angers me that so many innocent people have bought into a lie and are buying these products to the detriment of their own health. Are you aware that many cosmetics and personal care products are loaded with chemical fragrances? Think how many cosmetic products that you use each day? Perhaps you are an average consumer and use a dozen or more daily; that’s a lot of not-so-good-for-you chemicals that we lather, splash, brush, apply and inhale each day.

In the book, The World of Aromatherapy, Victoria Edwards writes an excellent article about the differences between natural and synthetic fragrances.  Many of these synthetic essences are often derived from a natural source but are broken down and processed so much that little-to-none of the original benefits remain. Then the scientists add synthetic petro and coal-tar chemicals to their products, and this is just in the $10 billion US cosmetic industry alone! If we look at our processed and chemical foods we find that we truly need to get back to nature, at least as best as we can with our busy lives. To add to the list is the growing number of pharmaceuticals that once were derived from plants. Okay, enough for you to ponder on the topic of synthetics, I had better get back on track with Esther’s Days of Purification. Before we do, may I encourage you to do your own study on how chemicals have invaded our lives? Often, once you begin to study, you may begin to modify your lifestyle to incorporate more organic foods and natural cosmetics.

The ancient secrets of the six months of oil of myrrh and the six months of sweet odors of other Biblical plants made the process of Esther’s Days of Purification complete. From my research I’ve compiled a list of ancient sweet spices possibly used during the season that Esther became Queen. I chose six that were most likely used for her. I not only expound on the possible healing properties of them, but I’ve incorporated symbolic and emotional benefits that I’ve associated with the plant. Today, we have modern uses for these true essences derived from flowers, fruits, seeds, trees, resins and herbs contained in essential oils, extracts and teas.

As I compiled this book I had a hard time keeping it simple so as not to overwhelm you. The more I study, the more I marvel at the Creator of the Universe who brought natural botanical plants into the world on the third day. He created them all for our sustenance and for medicinal purposes to treat sickness and disease. It truly is my desire to draw you into a time of personal preparation to meet our Creator through His Biblical botanicals however deep or simple that may be.

As I’ve continued with my Precious Oils ministry throughout the last nineteen years I’m encouraged that so many Believers enjoy my “forte” of “marrying” Scripture with my Biblical teachings and essential oil products together. But please note, by no means am I an expert or certified in any area of aromatics. The books I write are gleaned from years of personal study where I’ve compiled a large number of notes and have published some of them. I have more ready for future projects, all in due season. I have an ever-growing library dedicated to aromatics and botanicals, the jewels and gems of nature that we all can embrace.  I appreciate the plants of the Bible for our health and pleasure and I esteem the wonder and depth of how God’s Word is full of references to them.

Several years ago I sensed the Holy Spirit saying to me – Prepare yourself the way Esther did. I realized that Esther had two preparations -(#1) 12 months, 6 months oil of myrrh and 6 months with sweet odours to be chosen by the king and (#2) praying and fasting for three days to save her people the Jews. I did the fast for three days but I didn’t know what to do for the first preparation. I wonder if the twelve months is to allow the Word and the Holy Spirit to cleanse me daily so that I can go before King Jesus with clean hands and a pure heart so that his beauty can shine through me. I believe the 12 months is more of a spiritual preparation. I am asking God to reveal his truth to me.
    May God Bless You!!!

      Velma,

Sorry for the delay in answering your comment, I’m in Israel and have had limited time on my computer for the last three weeks.

You are not alone with the nudging of the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) to examine the preparation of Queen Esther and how it can be applied to our lives. I agree, it is a spiritual preparation. But it is also found in the six months of oil of myrrh and the six months of sweet spices. I am getting many reports from around the world on the insights that the Lord has allowed me to pen linking the natural with the spiritual in the myrrh and spices.

      God bless,

      Cynthia

The RauchHaKodesh begin guiding this morning as i have been praying about starting my fast along with the corporate body of Christ this January. i had been planning on following the fast of our church starting on the 9th….but He has a different plan….a divine strategy i should say in order to thrawrt the plans of the enemy concerning the destiny of me and my people……so he begin to lead through different books, then the Bible etc. which all i would open to Queen Esther….. as i was beginnning to see that his fast for me was unique—-the fast He desired for me was the Esther fast….followed by the purification….which has led me to google—-and to your site……i feel a sense ofexuberation and victory as this is a Rhema word of DELIVERANCE for me and my family—-as Q Esther…..that God loves us and He desires to bring purification to His Bride and especially “me” his Queen. thank you for your site—i am “FAVORED” to have found your wisdom

Cathy, Your note is one of the same voices that has flooded my mailbox over the last few months. I feel the bottom line is that the Ruach (Hegai is an example in the book of Esther). Esther was prepared with only the items that were given to her from Hegai. Since Hegai is a type of the Holy Spirit, her provisions were given by the Holy Spirit. May it be the same to and for you in 2011.

      Blessings,

      Cynthia

I have been studying a book by Donna Partow “Becoming The Woman God Wants Me To Be” from the start of this new year! I came to this site while searching for answers regarding purification! The Holy Spirit dropped the “Esther Purification” into my heart! I honestly feel God wants us as women of God to yes have our lives together spiritually and daily purifying our hearts before him with the Word of God and prayer, but equally important, I feel He long to take us back to the natural way of caring for our bodies, purifying them of unhealthy foods, cosmetics, toxins and elements and He wants to bring us to a place where the things we use on and in our bodies gives is the most beautiful skin, hair, nails, teeth, and a long healthy life! For He wish above all things that we prosper and be in health even as our souls prosper!
    God Bless!

Joy, your message was a “joy” to read.

I agree, the road to becoming His pure and spotless Bride is spiritual and physical.

I don’t know anything about the book you mentioned but the title is encouraging. God does want each of us to be the best that we can be.

I pray that as you seek Him with your whole heart that you will find the answers that you are seeking. In turn, may the things that you learn while you are on your path be shared to those you meet that have the same questions.

      God Bless,

      Cynthia

Hebrew meaning for woman – prepared for army. Man – caretaker. It also states in the word that in the last days woman will cover the man.. Preparation of the bride as warrior..spiritual warfare. Esther was undercover …her real name relates to ‘myrtle’ a tree whose leaves only release their fragrance when they are crushed. When Esther was under pressure that is when her true fragrance came forth…I pray that we are prepared and equipped to set our true fragrance free in times of trouble, pressure where the world is heading according to scripture..Please keep me in the loop..I am eager to learn…K

I brought home some myrtle leaves from Israel. I love to crush them as an example during my seminars as they have no scent until they are crushed. I agree tumultuous times are in the horizon; so is the time for those who are the Bride to “Arise and Shine” and carry His fragrance to the lost and dying world.

    Hello,
I have been looking for a breakdown to Esther’s beauty secrets, especially having been inspired by her life from an orphan to a queen…such humility. Well, I praying for my future wedding and I want to prepare and purify myself for my King, my marriage and for my God. I live in Eastern Africa, do you have any distribution links in Kenya?

    Thanks, Cynthia Kanana.

The Lord wrote me a letter between December 22 and 24th 2011 and delivered it to me the night of the 24th by the hand of a faithful servant of his. I spent considerable time the last two weeks examining this wonderful letter and studying the sentences of it. The Holy Spirit has prompted me to get up in the wee hours of the morning to read His Word, and so I have been. My studies have let me just this a.m. to Esther 2, where this recipe is found. Thank you, Precious Oils, for being there. The bride is soon to be chosen.

I have been brought to this site because a prophetic word of The Lord has
caused me to further inquiry. The word was that I am about to walk into the second half of the 12 months of preparation in my walk with The Lord. If you feel comfortable and can add your interpretation of this, I would be obliged. Abundant Blessings!!! 🙂

As I was having my quiet time with The Lord today..the Holy Spirit of God spoke to my heart and put in my heart these words..Close to the heart of God…the Bridegroom and the Bride..the relationship of Christ and His Bride…the Church…the relationship of The Father and His Son…their oneness…how they are knitted perfectly together…the Father and His Son…then the Spirit of God showed me the book of Esther and told me to read where Esther is being prepared to go before the King! The preparation…Esther 2:12…I know that The Lord has a word for us today!! I believe that The Lord is preparing today Women that will bring forth the message of the sweetness of the Gospel! But He is washing us cleansing us! Cleansing us with His Spirit and His Word! So we can take this message to a world that is in need of a Savor! Of a true King!! The King of our soul!! The lover of our soul!! In Jeremiah 32:38 we read “And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. 39. I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their own good and the good of their children after them. 49. I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me. 41. I will rejoice in doing them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul.” I know that this was for the children of Israel, but I also believe and know that this word is also for us today! Meditate on this word! Let the Spirit of God speak to your heart and minister to your life today! Amen! Know that you are blessed and highly favored by your Heavenly Father!!

    Wow!
This morning I prayed that YaH would show me exactly what He wanted me to read. Opened the Scriptures to Esther. I started reading and thought … this can’t be it. I stopped and did more praying. Then was prompted to begin to read again. When I got the part about myrrh etc. – He reminded me that He has already placed in my spirit to begin to prepare myself with oils. I searched Google and your page came up. Then when I read this last post about 6 months of Myrrh to heal her broken-heart. I was so amazed because several months ago someone spoke to me and said that YaH calls me “precious’ and that He is going to heal me… (I thought this was physical because I have bell’s palsy) but then she added… ‘He is concentrating on healing your broken heart’. Ant that is exactly what He has been doing since then … in too many ways to write about. But, now to read this portion of Ester and to realize that here is another level to the healing… All I can say is, “Thank you YaH’ for your faithfulness and your guiding.”
And thank you, Cynthia for following the leading of YaH so we may have the knowledge you have acquired. I just ordered the book on Amazon.

    Blessings to you!

    Jennifer

    Hello Cynthia
Thank you for your insight into the purification process and the use of the oil of myrrh. I was led to your page when we studied the book of Esther in a small group. God has been helping me to understand how He is calling and preparing His Bride in these Last Days… out of the Church. The Bride is making Herself Ready (Rev 19:7). Oh how we love Him and long for His appearing!
    Thanks and Blessings
